It's time for CSA Registration
Hey CSA Members
I hope that this mild winter treated you all well. As signs of spring start to appear so does planning for the upcoming season. We have begun to order seeds and have even started to seed some spinach and lettuce in the greenhouse. Another sure sign of spring is CSA registration. We hope that you will be joining us for another season full of fresh fruits and veggies from our CSA boxes. The application can be filled out and then mailed to us at:

We are excited about the upcoming season and with the weather as it is we may be working in the fields sooner than later. Right now we finished lambing and we have babies bounding around everywhere. They are so curious. We are also currently tapping our sugar bush for the first time ever and have started to boil down the sap to delicious maple syrup. Then soon enough it will be planting, planting, planting for the season and not too far away the first Asparagus and Rhubarb!
Hope you will all be joining us for another season of CSA
Sincerely,
Kelty Salmon
CSA Fall Wagon Ride and Thanksgiving Turkeys
Hey Everyone
I would like to invite everyone to the farm again for another CSA event. On Sunday September 25 at 1 p.m. we will be meeting at the market for a wagon ride of the fields. We will be giving another tour of the farm and show you what is happening here now. You will also be able to pick a pumpkin. Then we will return for some cider. I hope that everyone will be able to come out to see what is growing on Willowtree for the fall. Please RSVP via email so I can get an idea about numbers. Hope to see you all here.
With the fall quickly approaching and Thanksgiving dinner not too far off. We wanted to give you the opportunity to pre-order one of our pasture raised turkeys. This year we raised 45 hormone and antibiotic-free turkeys in our pasture.
Because we have a limited quantity and last year we pre-sold all our turkeys, we wanted to give you the opportunity to reserve a turkey. They are $ 3.50/ lb and will be frozen and available after next Wednesday in the market. If you would like to reserve a turkey you can email us at info@willowtreefarm.ca or phone the market 905-985-4973.
Have a great day

Update and Reminder to please bring boxes and containers back
Hey Willowtree CSA members,
We just wanted to update you on things that are happening on the farm. Right now we are picking strawberries, and we just opened our fields to U-pickers. We are now also picking a few other crops. We have started to pick zucchini, leaf lettuce, fresh garlic and scapes and basil. Watch for these crops in your CSA boxes in the next couple of weeks.
I also wanted to thank all the members who came out to the farm this weekend. I had a lot of fun showing you around (even after my fall in the mud) and hope everyone enjoyed them selves. For those of you who could not make it, hopefully you get a chance another time to come visit us. You are all welcome, if you call and let us know ahead of time we can try to arrange a tour.
Just a reminder to please bring your box and containers back each week. We are trying our best to Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. Please help us out! If you forget, just bring it the next week. Thanks

Willowtree Farm making a difference one CSA basket at a time
Port Perry, Ontario, April 2011: The 2010 summer farming season may be over but the work for Willowtree Farm in Port Perry isn’t. The farm is already planning ahead for the 2011 season and the second year of their Community Supported Agriculture program. Willowtree is encouraging residents to become a part of their program and purchase weekly baskets of fresh fruits and vegetables or natural beef straight from the farm. By taking part in the program Willowtree has plans to have residents see, taste and learn the true meaning of local food.
Jordan Mckay, of Willowtree Farms says that it is really important people learn about why local farms are offering this type of program. “Eating local is becoming more important all the time, people need to know where their food is coming from and where it is produced, he said. “So many people are unaware of what food is produced in their area. The CSA program really connects the farmer and consumer.”
McKay who is also a part of the Port Perry Farmer’s Market from June to October, says their program makes it more convenient for customers. “We understand some people can’t make it to the market every Saturday but we still want them to be able to experience fresh, seasonal food, which is where our program helps out,” he said. “Our program just adds to what the market is trying to do and give an alternative for those people that can’t make it.” Leading up to next season, Mckay says residents that join will get a chance to see how and where the food is grown and learn more about it. The farm will be offering farm tours, so members can see how and where their food is grown, as well as recipes and descriptions of the food that they receive in their weekly baskets.
Willowtree is unique in the way that they try to provide customers with not just taste but knowledge of local food. “You can walk into the grocery store anytime and purchase a banana or apple but a lot of people don’t know what is in season and what isn’t,” said McKay. “By purchasing our baskets customers aren’t only getting great tasting food, but food that is in season around us.” According to Mckay, people can learn a lot about their meat as well by making a visit to the farm. “We have signs, explaining that our meat comes straight from the animals on the farm, which are all natural fed with no antibiotic or growth hormones.” Whether residents are looking for the perfect seasonal vegetable or looking for just the right steak to grill, Willowtree is sure to have something to please the palette.
Thanks for your support this season
Hello Friends of Willowtree
As I am sure you are all aware, we have now closed for the season. We would like to thank all of you for supporting us and making this another great season. This season has flown by and it seems bizarre that we have already packed away everything until next year. At the same time, literally every last apple and tomato have been sold. All we have left is some beef and pork. If you forgot to fill up for freezer for the winter, you can still get sausages, steaks and some roasts (Sorry no more Bacon). Just send us an email info@willowtreefarm.ca and let us know what you would like. If your freezers are already full, thanks again for supporting us this season. We wish you all the best this winter and see you next spring.
Thank you
