School Tours

Bring your Students to our farm for some fresh air learning!!

Our farm offers experiential, curriculum-based, school programs are custom-matched to compliment your grade’s studies, and transport your class into in a real working farm. The farm is an interactive place to explore with your class in a variety of habitats. All of our tours offer hands-on activities including: picking or planting, farm animals, and excursions to our fields to see our crops. We offer both spring and fall tours of the farm.

Each class will get an overview of our plants and animals, daily and seasonal cycles, and how plants grow. They will also get an opportunity to observe the effects of soil and water on plant growth. We strive to make our tours fun, safe and relevant to each class.

Maple Syrup Tours- (Mid March till Mid April)  

Come with us to the sugar shack and take a trip into the past through this great Canadian tradition! Our farm is a working farm. Students will learn about how sap is taken from the tree and the process it must go through in order to become maple syrup. Students will help measure and tap a tree, visit the sugar shack, enjoy a wagon ride. They will also get to sample Willowtree Farm’s own maple syrup and sap and roast marshmallow on a campfire. Students will explore the production of maple syrup through time. They will see the development of technology used to collect and boil sap and learn through experience by interacting with several of those tools. We will walk through a forest trail of maple syrup production, culminating in an overview of how we make maple syrup inside our sugar shack. During your visit, you will get to know the forest and its inhabitants. Students will have the opportunity to tap a tree, carry buckets, and collect sap if conditions permit. We will also taste sap & syrup we have made at our sugar bush.

 

Spring Tours – (Mid April till July)

Students will explore the life of the farm and how their food is produced. They will see crops in the field, being planted and have a chance to harvest and eat some straight from the field.  Students will get to experience and interacting with farm animals and learn about all the “chores” that must be done each day. include a Wagon Ride of the farm, Educational Tour with the farmer, planting seed per child and time for play. Students will learn and participate in some of the many jobs farmer have in a fun and interactive way.

 

Fall Harvest Tour- (September – October)

Students will explore the life of the farm and how their food is produced. They will see crops in the field, and have a chance to harvest and eat some straight from the field.  Students will get to experience and interacting with farm animals and learn about all the “chores” that must be done each day. include a Wagon Ride of the farm, Educational Tour with the farmer, eat crops in the field, and time for play and pick a their own pie pumpkin (1per student and a large classroom pumpkin). . Students will learn and participate in some of the many jobs farmer have in a fun and interactive way.
